Client: Ontario By Bike Network Project / Transportation Options
Project: new website with fully interactive maps
The Ontario By Bike initiative aims to encourage Canadians to explore more of Ontario by bike. Launched in 2010, the Network now includes over 1,000 bike friendly locations across 28 regions.
To complement their Cycling in Ontario printed guide, the Network's founders Transportation Options came to Akira Studio to create a new website that expanded on the printed Guide.
Akira developed a fully interactive onsite map that allows users to search for any bike-friendly location by name, or simply click on a location on the map at any scale to reveal more information.
Each location is identified by an icon, representing bike-friendly businesses including accommodation, repair shops, cafes and restaurants, and wineries. The site also includes searchable videos of great places to cycle, and listings for almost 100 bike events in Ontario.
The website home page has a highly visible coloured bar that encourages visitors to sign up for "Fun, informative & inspiring cycle touring information". It's highly effective too; the Ontario By Bike newsletter is currently sent to over 6,000 keen cyclists every month!
