Client: First With Iain
Project: new website
First with Iain provides first aid training for individuals and small groups across the South West of England. Frustrated by the lack of courses available to support his own Surf Coach requirements, Iain founded his business to provide quality first aid training at times to suit clients, such as weekend.
Akira Studio created a new website for Ian which bucked the trend for first aid course providers. Rather than designing a clinical, medical-style website, Akira developed a friendly, approachable look based on an image of the coast taken not far from Iain's base in Bideford, Devon. The web design features less formal fonts and slightly 'distressed' edges to the white box elements, giving a relaxed 'beach chic' look to the site.
All text and graphic elements on the home page are laid over this main image, creating a fully responsive website that adapts to the size of the device it's being viewed on, whether desktop PC, laptop or mobile device.
While all Iain's courses are listed on a conventional drop-down menu, they also feature in an interactive animated section, where logos representing each course type 'whizz' across the screen. This visually attractive element draws attention to the variety of courses available, which might otherwise be lost on first viewing the website.
The latest news from Iain appears in its own section at the bottom of the website, in a clear non-nonsense design that links through to the longer version of each blog. This enables Iain to keep customers up to date with the latest news, which is supplemented with posts on his Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn social media accounts.
As website designers and graphic designers, we often work with clients in the UK and other countries from our base near London, Ontario. With broadband and wifi becoming faster and more accessible, clients can view designs online, be emailed text to review, send photos and even chat online, at zero extra cost to working with a company in their home country. What's more, we find that the time difference actually works to everyone's benefit, as it in effect lengthens the working day. So, a client can be checking a design in the UK in the morning, and email us at lunchtime, which is in turn our morning, so we have all day to work on it!
